Why Did You Download Game of War Fire Age?

I had just received my first smart phone and received a message from a friend that I should try Game of War Fire Age.

The dude on game’s icon caught my attention. He was raging with a rebel yell and teeth ready to gnash at anyone who dared stand in his way!

The game initially took on an Age of Empires feel. I walked through the tutorial with Athena and started to look around.  Cool! I’ll work on building my empire then lay waste to all these unsuspecting empires I see about, most have a shield like me.  I’ll book mark them and wait for it to drop.

My First Attack – Hooked!

I had my first army of tier 1 or tier 2 I believe at a whopping 100,000 power or something. I sent an army to a silver tile that I really needed!

Oops, someone else is trying to reach that same tile. My screen turns red! I turn red in anticipation and nervousness, and then…

Hmm, what happened?

I check the report. All my troops are dead and my hero is gone!

Enter Mopar Lar and Runner from Dahae Dawgmen

My first impression of Mopar Lar and his son Runner was spectacular. The guy who captured my hero on a tile was hit by Runner. Before Runner reached the tile my captor pulled his troops off the tile for a mad dash to his stronghold.

Mopar Lar was already headed that way with his incredible army of tier 3! Just as my captor was reaching his stronghold Mopar Lar lit him up freeing mine and several other heroes! Wow! This guy is amazing!

I was with Mopar Lar and Runner ever since…

Mopar Lar passed away a few months back and that passing was sort of the camel’s straw to break our alliance. We’d been slowly drifting apart but I feel this event really put a period on our saga.

The next month we took his alliance to the Super Wonder and with help from Allysssa and Draco we achieved a third place finish.  Not Emperor, but not bad for a team of social players who just wanted to stick together through thick and thin.

Where Did We Go Wrong?

Perhaps a look at Game of War’s history will help us unlock how we’ve reached the current state of Game of War. Whales dropping like flies. New installs lowest they’ve ever been.

Once top of the charts with Candy Crush, Game of War now barely reaches the top 100.

Once 2 million a day in revenue now scraping by with less than $100k/day.

So, yes, I’d say something is wrong with Game of War. No joy.

Game of War Economy – Important to Player Base Retention

First, it seems once resources were added to packs many players who specialized in hyper farming and selling resources were soon pushed out of the game.

These players had a small budget. It’s not enough to purchase packs frequently. Also, their speed-ups  no longer supplied by the sale of silver and food. This wasn’t what they signed up for…

Hyperfarming on a Grand Scale

Some players set up vast farming networks of some 300 accounts or more. Each of those accounts was a download and some spending to get them to maximize production was suddenly worthless.

Players could simply purchase large amounts of resources in gold store packs from the makers of the game.

This destroyed the economic balance of Game of War Fire Age.

No longer was Game of War about helping alliance mates with resources and other needs to upgrade their empire.

Instead, alliances began seeking, “big spenders.”

The first players to leave Game of War were the “farmers.” These players who prided themselves on the best production boost gear and empires that maximized a specialized resource.

These players were also apart of a cluster of other farmers who traded resources to maximize production of all resources per day.

Impossible now to keep up with out purchasing, these players tried to hold on as long as possible, but without purchasing it was impossible to remain relevant for very long.

The joy of Game of War slipped away for these players.

So, who remained? Spenders with a larger budget were mostly who remained.

The latest news in Dahae kingdom is a continuation of the DF (Dahae Fighters) vs. D (Dreaded Legion) saga.  DF, in a surprise move, has decided to offer new kingdom rules to all alliances.

This coming from the alliance that since its inception has fought against rules of the ruling alliance, creating chaos and fear, forcing many to quit Game of War completely.

The spirit of these new rules are said to strengthen the kingdom for kvk events.  They are basically 1) no tile hitting outside of kill event 2) no holding heroes 3) no rallying.

The most comical part of the whole scenario was they created a room for the leaders of alliances to join and discuss the rules.  But you can imagine how that went.

Keep in mind DF has been terrorizing it’s own kingdom for months now.  Zeroing people, farming them, executing heroes.

Initially they stated it was to toughen and strengthen the weak for kvk.  Now they argue Dahae needs rules of non aggression to grow.

The discussion was pleasantly taking place until one member of DF became agitated and began cursing everyone in the room out.

This ultimately led to most of the top alliances to reject the rules.

DF has since announced war against them.

The smaller alliances who accepted the rules have already experienced DF breaking them by being tiled by them.

True Intentions of Kingdom Rules

So, what are the true intentions behind these new rules?

Mostly posturing to appear to rule the kingdom?  DF can’t even control the wonder.  Last night they got their butt’s handed to them by PK.

In my mind they continue to be a band of misfits and thieves attempting to establish themselves as an honorable and legitimate alliance with Dahae’s best interests at heart.

Sounds like the lie Michael Corleone from The Godather tells his wife over and over.  “We will soon be 100% legitimate.”

LeBeowulf Hive Revisited


It saddens me to inform all that today Mad Guardians of Dahae K94 loses one of our greatest warriors.  LeBeowulf has chosen to lay down her “Tome of Distinct and Infinite Intellect” and “Staff of Logic and Sense” to retire from the battlefields of Dahae and the Game of War.  Much like T.S. Eliot once penned, “[t]his is how the world ends: not with a bang, but a whimper,” she is gone, removing herself quietly from our ranks and slipping in the shadowy abyss which is the “real world.”

Your sound logic and soothing, calm words will be missed in the rowdy officer hall of Mad Guardians.

As tribute to you, we revisit “Lebeowulf Hive” post from December 27, 2014.

When the task of reforming and relocating our newly merged alliance hive presented itself, no man would step up to the challenge.  A challenge entailed directing 99 members, with countless strongholds where their new homes would be.  But you, equipped with Post-It notes, bedroom wall, and possessed with the dedication to see this noble chore to its bitter, exhaustive end, set out to form a great, impenetrable phalanx.  It is a Dahae’s bastion of hope to this very day!


Without further ado I present to you “LeBeowulf Hive!”

I would like to describe the “LeBeowulf” hive construction designed by (MGd) LeBeowulf of K94 Dahae.  It has several features that may interest your alliance:

  • Protected farms – farms are placed in the middle of the hive and must follow a “Mopar Mandate”. This mandate means any farms that will be included MUST remain shielded 24/7.  I personally use 3-day shields for convenience and cost.  If members are unable to shield their farms then it may be near the hive, but a substantial distance as not to attract pesky farmers. A five minute march is recommended.
  • Mains surround the farms on the perimeter.  By placing mains or “fighters” on the outside, holes are prevented from developing during kill events.  Unwanted guests or outlanders will be forced to port only on the outside of hive allowing for easy counter rallying.
  • Location is close to forest or wonder but not abutting it where all the action takes place during a kill event.  However, we are close enough to hit level 6 monsters periodically and send collection marches to tiles. We are often overlooked initially during kill events which allows us time to port over at start of kill events.
  • Isolation by encampments.  During kill events it is easy to place multiple rings of isolation camps from the many farms located within the hive.  Isolating the hive with encampments is of great importance since the release of rally speed research.  It will provide your alliance members extra time to change gear, discuss strategy, “taking it or not?”, reinforcing, or simply activating a shield.

Our hive architect, LeBeowulf, required each member planning to relocate with the alliance to our new hive location to send her each account name.  Once she had heard from every member she used a wall in her house to place sticky notes containing each account name and type. I also believe she color coordinated them. She then wrote the exact coordinate to port to.  These coordinates were then mailed to each member.  She is an amazing member, we are lucky to have her on our team.

Since our move we have flourished greatly with minimal burning.  It was our goal to give zero resources or kills to our enemies. We are succeeding. Our brilliantly blue, frosty hive is the second great wonder of Dahae!

DF vs. Dahae for Wonder – Game of War

It appears DF will once again challenge the entire kingdom of Dahae for control of wonder.

See backstory more


For now we are holding with 5 hours left.


First rally against DF was mostly ranged as they reinforced with strat ranged and infantry. However, they quickly reinforced with strat cavalry to counter before rally hit. We called out to cancel but time was too short between scout report and message in alliance chat sent.


Wonder battle lesson #1: watch for wonder reinforcement swap or send even amount of troop type.

Rally 2 was full core relic March and they pulled out of wonder. We are now holding and waiting…

3 hours left… quiet… too quiet.
